Sometimes a tooth can become impacted in the jaw and will not erupt on its own. You will be referred to have the tooth surgically uncovered which a gold button and chain will be attached to the impacted tooth.
At our office, the gold chain will be tied to the archwire to be slowly guided into place over several appointments. Once the tooth has erupted enough, we will remove the gold chain, replace it with a bracket, and engage the tooth into the archwire with the rest of your teeth. There may be some discomfort while the chain is being activated.
